(SORTA) BIG NEWS
As discussed, the mods have voted on a series of rule changes for the upcoming season. The results are below. 1. Salary Cap Raise - DENIED (1-7) The salary cap will stay at $60,000,000 this season.
2. Qualifying Offers - APPROVED (8-1) Qualifying Offers will be implemented starting this season. Read up on the rules and restrictions here.
3. New FA Bid Point Formula - APPROVED (9-0) Starting this season, we will use a new formula to calculate the value of bids. Read the rules regarding bids here.
4. One-Time Amnesty - DENIED (3-6) There will be no change in the amnesty rules.
5. Re-Sign Restructuring - APPROVED (6-3) We are adopting a completely new process for our re-signs this summer. No more mod voting, re-signs will be decided through an open market bidding process the same as normal free agents. Read the rules regarding re-signs here.Thank you all for your patience this summer. As we continue this league into it's sixth season, it is crucial that we take the time to self reflect on the rules that help this league run smoothly and when the opportunity to improve those rules presents itself, it is important that we act on it. Personally, I want to thank all of our owners who shared their views on these rule changes. All of the mods took those viewpoints into account when voting on these changes. I know many owners are happy with these changes and some owners will be disappointed. Across the board the mods feel optimistic that these rule changes will help make our league run smoother and more competitively, this season and beyond. I'm incredibly excited at the prospect of another 5 years competing against you all. Please feel free to PM me, Trail Ducker, or any of the other mods with questions.
Upcoming ScheduleAugust 15th - Draft Begins (this can and will be moved up if we fill all our openings quickly)
August 15th - Deadline to Declare Qualifying Offers
August 22nd - Free Agency Begins

Not a fan of this at all. If we're going to restructure the entire system, we might as well redraft and start all over again.

I do like these changes as the old resign system really capped this league. Free Agency is far too dull and this will liven it up!

I've been really sceptical waiting for these rule changes to come. There was no clear direction to be seen, too many different and wild ideas and just a huge danger this great league could loose a bit of its fun with massive changes coming. Now I have to say, that I am totally excited for the upcoming season! The rule changes are very good balanced. You`ve found a way to revive a broken FA market and still give the owners the chance for roster continuity, while abandoning a re-sign system that was set up for discussion and pissed off owners. The only thing that fell a bit short - in my opinion - is the championship bonus.
Still the existance of such a bonus is very discussable as well, so I'm fine with it getting a dip. Overall I have to say: Good job, league staff! (Though would have still liked to get an insight on the super secret mod lounge discussions/votings)

So the result of your inquiry and back door discussions is to declare the old system entirely fucked and immediately enforce new rules that make this league like every other proboards league out there? Good work fellas! You've fixed something that wasn't broken and rendered the whole machine worthless in the process.
I'll decide whether or not I'll stay here soon. Suffice to say, I'm not pleased with the proposed changes or with how these changes were brought about.

Good work fellas! You've fixed something that wasn't broken and rendered the whole machine worthless in the process. I'll decide whether or not I'll stay here soon. Suffice to say, I'm not pleased with the proposed changes or with how these changes were brought about. The league rules are still about 90% the same as the old rules. The Re-Sign process has been changed because many owners felt the contracts that resulted from mod voting were wildly out of whack with the rest of the league. Bid points were changed because many owners felt that the emphasis on short contracts with high dollar amounts was bad for the league. Qualifying Offers were added to give owners another tool to use when shaping their roster. I'm only in one league so I can't speak to the what "every other proboards league" is like, but I do know that the intention with these changes was to make the league more competitive, more balanced, and more fun. I'm personally very happy that the leadership in this league seems to share a desire to continually improve the league, even when there is disagreement on how that is done. We have a good community here. You have been a positive part of it for quite a few years. Hopefully you can stick it out and give the changes a chance before leaving.

I'm sorry you guys are frustrated and I hope you do at least give this year a shot! I'm curious though, how is this like other proboards leagues. Every league I've been in that is "GM Style" has had a similar "____ number of resigns every ____ number of years". I've never seen this type of Free Agency. The way I see it it further rewards building a strong team through smart GMing because you have a better shot of keeping that team together. No more "I can only keep three of these guys, four if I'm lucky". Its basically like having Restricted Free Agents. Which I think is a bit more realistic then our previous version. I had to be convinced by Mighty on it myself at first, change is hard, but I'm personally excited for it and I think it will only add to our already vibrant culture.

I'm going to be away from the 4th to the 16th so I could slow down the draft. Should I make a list ranking the prospects and send it in to a commish so it moves quicker? I'll probably only be able to check once or twice a day at best and may not have any internet at times

FYI! I think I will add one more provision to the "Resign Bonus" that the Bonus will end when the First game of the Regular Season begins. Everyone cool with that?
