FREE AGENCY
Free Agency is held every offseason. (Dates will vary per year, Commissioners job to give the league heads-up about when Free Agency will begin).
All players whose contracts have expired will be available to sign, as well as any undrafted rookies. A complete list of eligible free agents will be made public prior to the market opening. The process for bidding on free agents is simple, but must be followed thoroughly and completely.
MAKING AN OFFER
We will use a point system to determine the value of contract offers. These points are determined through a formula that takes into account the dollar value and the number of years offered. Contract years represent a specific multiplier of the contract amount.
Bid Formula:
Points = (Salary * Year Multiplier) / 10^6
Year Multipliers:
1 year = 1
2 years = 1.75
3 years = 2.25
4 years = 2.5
For example:
$1,000,000 for 1 year = 1 point
$1,000,000 for 2 years = 1.75 points
$1,000,000 for 4 years = 2.5 points
And so on . . .
To bid on a free agent you must create a new topic in the Free Agency thread. There is a maximum of 20 Free Agency threads at one time (one page). If a new bid is started and it knocks a still active bid off of the first page, that new bid in invalid and will be deleted. Title the thread with the player's name and in the first post include the following information:
Player's Name (again)
Salary
Contract Length
Total Points
If you have the highest amount of points on the table for 24 hours, you win.
Typical bids should look like one of these:
However you wish to show the math, as long as the math is represented and accurate
MINIMUMS AND MAXIMUMS
Minimum Salary: $250,000
Minimum Contract Length: 1 year
Maximum Salary: N/A
Maximum Contract Length: 4 years
Minimum Bid Increase: 0.5 points
Maximum Bid Increase: N/A
INVALID BIDS
There are a number of ways to post an invalid bid. Try to avoid the following:
Bad Math - If points are added up wrong, the bid is invalid.
Missing Info - If you forget to put any of the required information in your post, the bid is invalid.
Over the Cap - If your bid puts you over the salary cap, the bid is invalid.
Over the Limit - If your bid puts you over the roster limit, the bid is invalid.
When an invalid bid is posted, either the commissioner or a moderator will comment on it and the next highest bid will go back to being the highest. 12 hours will be added back to the clock for that player (added to the time of the most recent valid bid or from when the invalid bid was noticed and pointed out, if the time has expired).
RE-SIGNS:
If the player you are attempting to sign is an expiring contract from your team’s roster, you’re entitled to a “Re-Sign Bonus” of 20% added to your bid. Calculate the point value as described above and then multiply the points by 1.2 to get the value of your Re-Sign bid.
There is no limit to the amount of re-signs a team may make.
Additionally, as a reward for winning the championship, a Championship Re-Sign Bonus is granted at 30% to be used on any player of their choosing they are attempting to resign in Free Agency. The GM has a five year window to use this championship resign bonus, it is a use it in the five years or lose it benefit. This bonus is added to Re-Signs only, and can not be added to bids on other free agents.
For instance, Somebody could offer this to one of your Players:
With the Re-Sign Bonus you can offer something like this to beat the bid:
Or if you are the championship winner you could offer:
NO-TRADE CLAUSE
The No-Trade clause can be added to select Free Agency bids to help you win a valuable player. It is an incentive for only the best players in the league. It is a way to secure a invaluable player, but has tremendous limitations on future flexibility so it must be used wisely.
NO-TRADE CLAUSE REGULATIONS:
- Can only be used on contract offers over $10 Mil.
- Can only be used on contract offers of at least three years length.
- A player with a No-Trade Clause can never be traded during the course of the entire contract.
- A player with a No-Trade Clause can only be waived during the final year of the player's contract and will include a $4 Million cap hit on top of the contract amount.
- When in Free Agency bidding the No-Trade Clause (or NTC) will be 2 extra points TO THE BID ON THE PLAYER.
- NTC is to be used at the very end of the bid (i.e. if you have a resign or championship bonus the 2 points are added AFTER you multiply the bid)
- When bidding with a No-Trade Clause the bid should look like this:
- When including the contract on your roster page the contract should look like this:
OTHER RULES
1. You have 30 minutes to withdraw a bid. If you withdraw a bid, it is treated as if it never existed.
2. Any player signed as a free agent can not be traded or waived for 30 days. For Free Agents signed before the season starts, the 30 day period begins the day of the first game of the season.
3. The Free Agent market closes at midnight the last day of the regular season. Any players being bid on at that point can continue to be bid on, but no new bidding threads may be started.
4. There may be no more than 19 Free Agents being bid on at one time. This is very important as it helps mods stay on top of all open bids.
IMPORTANT TIPS
- There is no maximum contract value, however you must meet the minimum roster requirement (8 players) on opening day without going over the salary cap.
- There is no provision for contracted players who retire, go to Europe, or leave the NBA for whatever reason. If you think that is a possibility, you would be wise to be careful about the length of the contract you are offering.
- You may outbid yourself if you want, however the 24 hour clock does NOT reset in that case.
- If you outbid yourself with an invalid bid it will be deleted and the 12 hours will NOT be added to the clock.
- Because there is an IR, it is important to keep in mind the Free Agent list on the host website (ESPN, Yahoo, Fantrax, etc.) will not be correct. We will keep the Free Agent List as up to date as possible, so please use that instead.
- If a bid on a player puts you over the roster limit, you must indicated a player you will waive if the bid is won by you. Remember if you have currently winning bids they count towards your roster space, so if you have 10 players on your roster and 2 currently winning bids you must post a player you will waive on the third bid, if one of those is outbid and ultimately won by another team you do not need to waive that player if you win only the other two bids.
- You are allowed to go over the roster limit via trades and draft picks in the offseason but not via Free Agents signings. You can wait until the first game of the season to waive players (Or just not pick-up their options is applicable) via Trade or Draft, but must waive players immediately no matter when during the year for any Free Agent signings to make room.
- The 30 No-Trade/Waive is only for Free Agency signings and does not apply to players picked in the Rookie Draft or Re-Signed.
10 GAME CONTRACTS
In select cases teams who get hit with the injury bug there will be an option for 10 game contracts. The contracts will be $500,000 for 10 games or until the player is dropped by the GM. You are only eligible for a 10 game contract if all of the requirements are met.
REQUIREMENTS FOR 10 GAME CONTRACT ELIGIBILITY:
- You must have three or more players inured and all for more then a weeks worth of games
- You must have space on your roster for this extra player including IR. Meaning if you have 10 active players and three of them are injured, you must have room to move at least one of them to the IR to make room for the new player.
- You must have the cap space for the duration of the 10 games.
- You must petition in the "10 Game Contract Petition" thread for the right and a Mod will accept your petition.
-In the petition please add the name of the players you wish to add for the 10 Game Contract and the names of the three or more players on your team injured for more then a week.
A GM can drop the contract at any time (10 game contracts waivers do not stay on the cap space like normal waivers) and must drop the contract once one of the injured players plays a full week of games or the 10 games are up (which ever comes first). 10 Game contracts end April 1st just like normal Free Agency.
Once your petition is accepted please post a thread in the Free Agency section of the player signed and the date of their 10th game. The thread will stay open in the Free Agency section until the player is waived or the time frame on the contract ends. This player is automatically a member of your team for this duration and cannot be bid on by any other GM's until he is either waived or the time frame ends.
If any of the three injured players gets traded for a non injured player (must be out for a week) during the 10 game contract, the player under contract must be dropped once the trade is accepted by the Mods.

The GM has a five year window to use this championship resign bonus, it is a use it in the five years or lose it benefit. This bonus is added to Re-Signs only, and can not be added to bids on other free agents.
For instance, Somebody could offer this to one of your Players:
$15 Mil @ 4 years = (15)(2.5) = 37.5 points
With the Re-Sign Bonus you can offer something like this to beat the bid:
$12.7 Mil @ 4 years = (12.7)(2.5) = (31.75)(1.2 Re Sign Bonus) = 38.1 Points
Or if you are the championship winner you could offer:
$12.2 Mil @ 4 years = (12.2)(2.5) = (30.5)(1.30 Champion Bonus) = 39.65 points
