RE-SIGNS
Re-Signings are now being treated in the same manner as free agents. Please read up on the new rules here.
ROOKIE CONTRACTS
Rookie Contracts have an added twist to them. First Round selections have three years guaranteed on their contract with a team option for the 4th year. Second Round selections have two year contracts where both years are team option years.
What does this mean for you? This means you MUST post in the "Option Pick-Up" section of Free Agency that you wish to pick up any player options you have available during that off-season before tip off of the first game of the season. Any players who have an option for that year and aren't posted in that section that the owner wishes to pick up their available team option, will go straight to Free Agency once the first game of the season tips off, whether the owner actually wished to pick up the option or not. You are free to sign Free Agents during the off-season with the rights to these player's still on your roster, only once you officially pick up their option do they go on your roster as a roster space. But you can not pick up a player option and then sign a free agent that puts you over the roster limit and go back on your option pick up. Once you pick up an option you must officially waive the player if you need the roster spot, even if it's still in the off-season.
QUALIFYING OFFERS
This is a special provision available to allow teams to extend an expiring contract instead of allowing the player to reach free agency. A team may extend a player's contract at 150% of the previous amount for 1 season. The following summer, the player will automatically become a free agent and will NOT be eligible for a Re-Sign Bonus.
For example if Joe Basketball has a contract of $6,000,000 (2017), I could bring him back for 2018 at $9,000,000 salary. At the end of the 2018 season, he would automatically become a free agent.
All Qualifying Offers must be declared before the free agency period opens (deadline to be announced each summer).
When including the contract on your roster page the contract should look like this:
SIGN-AND-TRADES
Expired or expiring contracts may be traded up until the time that player is bid on in the free agent market. The team receiving the expired contract will absorb the Re-Sign Bonus rights for that player. As soon as a free agent is bid is placed on that player, they're "locked in place" and may not be traded until 30 days after the bidding process has been completed.
