Aight I'll check it out. And 2 chainz album came out last week. It's stupid as shit. If you just want something to pump you up or annoy the shit outta your neighbors, I'd suggest I Do It ft drake and lil WAYNE. That's the only decent one.

If there are any EDM/House/Dance music fans on here, I suggest checking out Avicii's album. I listened to it last night and I am still a bit taken aback by the diversity with the genre he was able to achieve with this album. I read in an article he said he didn't want "Levels" to define him, he doesn't want to continue with the repetitive nature that House music has been criticized for and he wanted to take "EDM out of it's confort zone" by doing things with it no one else is. I think he accomplished that beautifully on this album. It really refreshing to hear dance music (that has now become more of the norm in other genre's like Hip Hop, Pop and R&B) to be taken to places no one has quite taken it to before.
I added 3 GB's of music last night on my iPod of 2013 albums I have been meaning to listen to. The list is: 3OH3, Avicii, Big Sean, Ciara, Depeche Mod, Goodie Mob (all the original members back together!), Hieroglyphics (it's been awhile from them), Janelle Monae, Juicy J, Natalia Kills, k-os, Mac Miller, Portugal. The Man, Pretty Lights, Skyler Grey, STRFKR, The Knife, Toro Y Moi, will.i.am & Zola Jesus. I'm not expecting all of them to hit with me, but I gotta give them a listen.

I got my hands on an early copy of the new Kings of Leon (and fortunately got to see them at Governors Ball), it's pretty solid, it sounds like they're going back to their older roots. Personally I'd regard it as much better than their last album.

Nice Mike! Thanks for the heads up, they are one I will look for when it comes out this month (next week I think). Their last albums wasn't bad, but nothing stood out to me and after a few spins I didn't really ever go back to it. Most of that is just because "Only By The Night" was so damn good so it overshadowed the next record a bit. I'll definitely check out the album.

Just dropping a song that got released today that I have been freaking out about all day. The beat by Diplo, the singing by Sia and The Weeknd, it might be my favorite song of 2013....

To whoever may be interested (maybe only Tampa Bay) I am quickly running through all of the hip hop albums of 2013 I have listened to with my input on them:
A$AP Rocky - LONG.LIVE.A$AP A$AP to me is a bit overblown. I never thought he was anything special and this album proved it to me. It's not bad, but it didn't deserve the hype it got. There is a run of really dope songs in the middle with "Wild For The Night" "Train 1" and "Fashion Killa" and honestly speaking "Fuckin' Problems" is a guilty pleasure of mine, as I want to hate it for the chorus, but the beat is infectious and the shit is too damn catchy.
Ace Hood - Trails & Tribulations Nothing special. The album is really what you'd expect from Ace, nothing really stands out, I listened to it once and that's probably enough. He's one of those rappers that's just kind of there.
The Airplane Boys - Brave New World I don't know why the Airplane Boys haven't really caught on in the US. They may never be a mainstream success as their music isn't club music at all, but their unique form of hip hop is such a breath of fresh air. Three years in a row they have dropped three free albums, but have made it to some good music festivals like Coachella and SXSW. Maybe if Drake ever shows them some hometown love and does a track with them they will get more recognition. This album is a bit more dark then their previous two, but the passion is much more in your face, yet not off-putting.
Big Sean - Hall Of Fame Big Sean has some good songs that I really bump, but most of his songs I feel like he just tries to damn hard. This album is a regression from his debut album, I feel the less input from Kanye is why. "Fire" is fire, but not much fire on this album after that.
Chance The Rapper - Acid Rap [Mixtape] It took me a couple spins on this mixtape to really appreciate what Chance is doing. I liked his uniqueness from the beginning though. He has recently made statements that he doesn't need to sign with a label because it's a "dead industry" so we'll see if he can make it going the "Macklemore route".
Danny Brown - Old Danny Brown is pretty funny and creative of a rapper, but in an album setting he always was a bit much for me. On this album he takes a much more serious approach to music while still maintaining the crazy, funny Danny Brown and it's pretty successful. I would say the more serious tracks overshadow the goofy ones that he's known for. I especially liked this line: "Listenin' to 2 Chainz, ain't thinkin' bout college. I wonder if he knew that 2 Chainz went to college. I wonder if he knew that, would that change his mind? Guess that's somethin' we'll find in due time."
Deltron 3030 - Event 2 Del has always been one of my favorite underground rappers, yet his albums usually leave me a bit underwhelmed. I've seen him live and really you notice is the beats that hold him back as he rips it live. That's the why Deltron 3030 album stands so tall in his discography. The beats are so dope from Dan The Automator and DJ Kid Koala and the futuristic concept of the beats and his lyrics work so flawlessly. 13 years later we finally get the second album from the group and although upon first listen (I've only had one on an advance streaming of the album on Pitchfork.com) it's not quite as good as the first album, it still is a great and fun listen that does not disapoint.
Drake - Nothing Was The Same I'm conflicted. This album has possibly some of Drakes best songs ("Hold On, We're Going Home" "Too Much" "Pound Cake") yet it has more of the Drake I don't care for much then his previous albums. Some like this album best from Drake because it's more "rap" or "street" but that's not the Drake I prefer. The confliction is that the album is almost all of the tracks are at least ok, or good, or awesome, but compared to "Take Care" it's falls short in my ears. Plus "Started From The Bottom" and "All Me" are blasphemy! Started From The Bottom? No you were a rich teenage actor on a successful show. All Me? You really think Lil Wayne had nothing to do with you being where you are? Big Sean you really think you would be anywhere without Kanye? Shit, 2 Chainz has the most to claim "all me" on that track, yet would he be around at all with his days on Disturbing The Peace with Ludacris? Probably not.
Ghostface Killah - Twelve Reasons To Die Producer Adrian Younge produced this whole album and was successful at capturing the Wu sound yet in a different way then just following RZA. Ghostface is solid on the rhymes as always. Nothing really wows you though, solid Wu release, nothing more, nothing less.
Goodie Mob - Age Against The Machine The unfortunate side effect from Outkast's success is how it overshadowed how good their labelmates Goodie Mob were. Their first two albums are some of Hip Hop's least known classics. It didn't help them that they regressed a bit in the albums after Cee-Lo left the group though. Luckily all four members got back together and made a banger here, that again is way slept on. This album doesn't look to their successful past and instead looks to the future with their hard hitting mechanical beats. It's such a breath of fresh air in today's monotonous hip hop. It's a shame this isn't being played over the airwaves, but I guess they are used to it.
Hieroglyphics - The Kitchen With "underground hip hop's Wu-Tang Clan" Living Legends breaking up last year I guess Hiero now can claim that title. It's been quite awhile since we have heard a whole group album from the collective but despite the lay off they still pump out a dope group album. Underground hip hop is looking like it may be on it's last legs as no new generation of acts have really broken through like the big names of the early 2000's (Atmosphere, The whole Living Legends Crew, Brother Ali, CunninLynguist, Aesop Rock, Zion I, Immortal Technique, Blueprint, Lyrics Born, Blackalicious just to name a few) but Hiero is showing they still can make some good positive hip hop.
J. Cole - Born Sinner DOPE DOPE DOPE! Cole and Kendrick Lamar are some of the saviors to mainstream hip hop, working to keep it going in the right direction. This album is just so strong and thought through. I still play "Crooked Smile" like the song just came out last week.
J. Cole - Yours Truly EP (1&2) Two EP's Cole dropps a few months before his album finally dropps. They were cool, no really amazing tracks, but nice of him to give us something to keep us around while he finished up his album
Jay-Z - Magna Carter.... Holy Grail A decent album, but when we realize who it's from, a disappointment. It came out a bit lazy from Jay to me. Almost like just dropped only because of "Yeezus" and not much though put into it.
Juicy J - Stay Trippy It's not Three 6 Mafia..... and that's a bad thing
K-Os - BLack on BLonde half of the album is rap, half is alternative. The rap side is by far better then the alternative side. But I appreciate K-Os willingness to try new things, but that's nothing new from him.
Kanye West - Yeezus Kanye's most polorizing album in his career. You either love or hate it. I am in the love category. I really appreciate that Kanye didn't give a shit about radio play or clubs and just made the music that moves him at the moment. Yes, I miss "College Dropout" and wish Kanye would take a few strides to reconnect with that level of novelty his first two albums (and Jay-Z - "The Blueprint") possessed. But, at the same time I see, understand, and approve of how Kanye is willing to progress and experiment in his music in a time when A&R's want the same thing from everyone.
Kid Cudi - Indicud Apparently I'm kind of in a minority that really liked this album. Kid Cudi seems to be losing his grasp on a lot of people which I don't see why and his music remains solid (besides the WZRD album). I guess the lack of radio/club cuts might be his downfall in the mainstream's eyes.
Kilo Kush - K+ [Mixtape] I first heard from Kilo on Childish Gambino's mixtape last year. She's got a unique sound that's really cool. Her biggest problem is because of her "talking" style of rapping it can get a bit dull as the tempos don't alternate much over a whole project. This project is a good one but I could see a short shelf life for her career if she's not able to mix things up a bit more.
Lucki Eck$ - Alternative Trap [Mixtape] Very different style of hip hop from the Chicago teenage. It reminds me of a more alternative form on Chance The Rapper. The beats are unlike anything really heard in hip hop before. It's really hard to explain without listening. I suggest checking out the mixtape from the youngster yourself, it's not something you have heard before.
Mac Miller - Watching Movies With The Sound Off YAWN. I've given this a few spins as some of my friends really like this album, but I just can't find anything to keep my attention (besides "Someone Like You" but I just really like the Nylo sample). The whole album just blends together to me.
Murs & 9th Wonder - The Final Adventure This album technically came out in 2012, but it was basically 2013 as it was a late December release. Their previous effort left a sour taste in my mouth as after three amazing albums together it sounded lazy and thrown together to me. There 5th and final album together doesn't completely make up for that, but it still it's much more improved then the last one. Murs is one of my favorite rappers no matter is it's solo, with 9th Wonder, in Living Legends, in Felt (with Slug from Atmosphere), in 3 Melancholy Gypsys (Murs, Eligh & Scarab), in The Netherworlds (Murs, Anacron & Himself) or teamed up with Fashawn so I'm eager to see what his next venture is.
Pusha T - My Name Is My Name Decent, not a bad album. But it makes me miss The Clipse first album more!
R.A. The Rugged Man - Legends Never Die R.A.'s inability to cater his music to anyone's desires has really hindered his career. After years being "around" in the industry and two albums scrapped by two different record labels, R.A. dropped his debut album to little attention, including the underground scene. Now 10 years later he finally drops his second album. This is a very solid project and does deserve more recognition. Looking at the track features you can really see his reach in both underground and mainstream hip hop and the respect he has in the circles. If only he could have finished more work for us to listen to.
Rapsody - She Got Game [Mixtape] Rapsody reminds me a lot of Jean Grae which is both good and bad. Good because Jean is dope, but bad because Rapsody is slightly a step behind Jean Gare lyrically. Getting over that though this is a strong mixtape from the overlooked female MC.
Run The Jewels (Killer Mike & El-P) - Run The Jewels I am so glad Killer Mike revived his career with El-P. His aggressive flow with El-P's hard hitting beats works so well. Both El-P's "Cancer For The Cure" and Killer Mike's "R.A.P. Music" where great albums in 2012, and in 2013 they decided to just group together for another thrilling album.
Talib Kweli - Prisoner Of Conscious Good, but a bit lacking in comparison to Talib's previous work. His last two albums have been a bit to "formula driven" and have both left me bored and wanting more.
Tech N9NE - Something Else If you like Tech, you should love this album. I can't keep up with Tech's rapid pumping out of albums, but of the ones I've heard this is probably my favorite.
The Uncluded (Aesop Rock & Kimya Dawson) - Hokey Fight Leave it to Aesop to take hip hop to somewhere it has never been. For those that don't know Kimya Dawson is the folk singer who's music was the central musical score in the movie Juno. Together the two very different artists create such a unique connection of hip hop and folk that is pretty surprisingly cohesive. There are a couple tracks where the creativeness gets away from them a bit and that track probably should have been cut out. But mostly this is a very successful experiment for those that like to experiment in their music.
Wale - The Gifted I'm still a bit salty at Wale for leaving from Jay-Z to Rick Ross after his first album. I know he was probably just following more money, but Ross is one of the most overrated figures in the hip hop community in my eyes and Wale I feel basically carries the Maybach Music Group. This is another strong album from Wale but it's those "Maybach" songs he is obligated to include that I feel hold his last two albums back.
There are some albums I chose not to listen to because i knew I probably wouldn't care for anything on them (Lil Wayne, Tyga, A$AP Ferg, French Montana, 2 Chainz) and probably some I didn't know about at all, but that is the list and my quick thoughts on hip hop of 2013.

I thought I would share with you guys my year end lists: Here is my list of My Top EP's of 2013 Here is my list of My Top Albums of 2013 I know I have some albums people value highly kind of low. Vampire Weekend didn't crack my Honorable mention but it was one of the last cut. Daft Punk getting a "Album of the Year" Grammy nod from their worst album to date is perplexing to me. Jay-Z getting the "Rap Album of the Year" nod off of his worst album of his career over J. Cole is equally confusing to me. Then I have a few artists that I can't find anyone who has heard of pretty high like Autre Ne Veut, Skin Town and Kelela. Anyways, check out the lists, click on the songs in the "proof" sections to sample the songs I highlighted. Feel free to offer all your own thoughts, questions, critiques and/or lists

Hey we have a lot of new people here so I thought I'd repost this, but I am big music nut. I try to listen to like every single thing I can, I go to concerts as much as I can afford, and I scour music blogs for new new that I post on this blog hereI like talking about music with people so if anyone wants to use this to talk about new music, old music please go ahead! In this thread you can see my year end lists over the last few years I have made. I realized I never posted my half-way list from 2014 I made in late May: My Best Albums of 2014 So FarI can already safely say the year end list will be different. There has been some really good albums out in the last few months (Lana Del Rey, Sam Smith, NONONO, DJ Mustard, FKA twigs) and still more to come (BANKS, Kendrick Lamar, Jhene Aiko, Jessie Ware)

Yeah that's her latest single. Dude she honestly keep topping every song with a new one. She's amazing. I saw her live in May, fuck she's smoking Gorgeous and then that voice; I was joking I should have stood in the front on one knee holding out a ring during the whole show. I've already heard over half her album from past releases and it's so good. I can't wait to hear it all!

Hahaha can I argue with you on that? No
But shit I'd much rather listen to her over 2 Chainz, Cheef Keef, That stupid "No Flex Zone" song. Hip Hop's slow circle down the toilet bowl continues.

They all suck. I don't know that I'd willingly listen to one over another. If I had a gun to my head, and had to pick one...oof, I might say pull the trigger.
