Me and Drake have a weird relationship. First off I loved his Comeback Season and So Far Gone mixtapes. I was freaking out about the dude after those. His albums haven't quite excited me as those mixtapes but they both have been damn good just in different ways. 'Thank Me Later' sucked me in right away with the two singles but then after a few spins I realized it's solid and all the songs are good, but outside of "Find Your Love" nothing is grabbing me quite like some of the stuff on those mixtapes. Then 'Take Care came' out and at first I was like ehhhh on it. I listened to it all the way through once in the first few months of coming out. I'm not sure why at all, because now to this day I'll still turn it on and listen to the whole thing bobbing my head.
I know I initially was wanting another 'Find Your Love' on it and didn't see it so that's probably a reason it took me awhile to come around. I know the reason why his second album was so much better was because of the influence and work on it by The Weeknd (who gave him multiple songs he had already recorded himself) and The Weeknd's producer Illangelo. Also he still makes these songs I absolutely hate like "Headshots" or "Started From The Bottom" to be his lead off singles ("The Motto" should be on that list as well, but that is a guilty pleasure of mine). The repetitive annoying ass songs throw away rap songs are not what I want from Drake. I want that creative mixture between R&B and Hip Hop. Using unique samples not typically used in the genre. Lastly I just don't feel anybody else in his crowd. Lil Wayne and Rick Ross are highly and annoyingly overrated to me. Nicki Minaj has ran her course with me, she can go away now unless she can pull another "Monster" verse out of her ass. Birdman, Tyga, Mack Maine, blah get out of here.
I'm looking forward to Drake's new album. Aside from "Started From The Bottom" all of the songs I have heard had been pretty good. That all being said I have seriously overblown hopes for The Weeknd's debut album, he hasn't helped those with the three fucking amazing singles he has released. That's the album I'm most looking for on that list, but all of them I'm pretty amped about.
