Has everyone calmed down a bit?
1) Tanking is a serious problem that we want to eliminate from our league. We're hoping the $10 million penalty does the trick. In case there is still any question . . . NOT PLAYING YOUR PLAYERS IS AGAINST THE RULES AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. That said, I don't think tanking is a widespread problem. There have been a few owners and teams where this has been an issue, but the vast majority of the league has competed with integrity and intent to win.
2) If you have a problem with something you've seen here, a ranting public post where you throw a fit and quit is not the best way to address it. We all want this league to succeed and carry on for many years. If you have a problem with something, we can fix it. If you've been here less than a month you probably don't know that we try to address people's concerns.
3) About re-sign contracts. We do our best, we vote, we compare players, and then the decision is final. If Blake Griffin got a million or two less than you thought the should, oh well. The competitive balance of the league will not tilt on a player making only 90% of what you think he should make. If you really have a problem with the voting, the best thing to do is become a mod and then you can vote. There will be an opportunity to do that at the end of this season.
4) This is fantasy basketball and its all fun and games. If you don't enjoy being here, leave. That said, I hope everyone stays around because we've built a pretty cool league that has a lot of great owners. Its clear from this discussion that there is a lot of passion among our owners and if people can work with us, we can continue to build this league up.

As you can see, something did change because halfway through Newark did start to field players, so I guess he was pointed out that he was not following the rules, adjusted his lineups to comply to the rules. Do I think this is a good way to go? No. I've been vocally against tanking as the other mods can attest to, and with more teams doing it, I want a new rule to be in effect for the coming season:
If a team is suspected to tank, any team can report it to the mods, and the mods will vote on wether or not the team is tanking and what the punishment should be.
Of course there should be guidelines for this, but I do not want to see teams get away with it, which is possible with the current rules as can be seen. This way teams that make a mistake still can be excused if the mistake is honest, but we also have the ability to punish teams that tank. The specifics of the rule can be worked out, maybe we only want to review it when 3 seperate teams report a tanking team, but I think this rule is needed.

Let's not forget that yes, there is a learning curve, and moreover, there are 30 teams in this league that have to be managed by the mods. I am biased, of course, but if you keep that in mind (or even if you don't), I think that the performance of the mods has been quite good. This league functions smoothly and is extremely well run, and there are plenty of people that contribute copious amounts of time to help the league function. Of course, when there are a 30 teams in a league, or even if there are 4, you can't foresee every possible issue, and sometimes people will find loopholes. When that happens, we close the loophole as soon as we can. Of course the league isn't perfect, but find me something that is.

If a team is suspected to tank, any team can report it to the mods, and the mods will vote on wether or not the team is tanking and what the punishment should be. This is a good point to reiterate. It is hard to police everything, so we need all the owners in the league to keep an eye out for rules violations. Not just tanking, but roster limits, cap violations, etc. If you see something, say something.

I usually have a keen eye on these kind of things but I've been busy last year and he started putting in players right around his matchup with me so it must have slipped by me.
However Mighty, I do mean that I'd like that we mods can vote according to wether we feel the team is tanking by general standards, not according to our rules. I want to be able to punish teams that put in a roster full of FA's while sitting his all-stars, and since that is hard to pin down with rules, I want us mods to be able to use our own judgment in determinging wether a team is tanking or not.

Can you really punish someone for not playing their best players? What abhor that is against the rules? Unethical, sure. But quite smart. And installing a rule against it doesn't make sense. I can find you a number of ways to argue against it, telling you why playing some scrubs could be beneficial and how no people can accurately judge what's going on. Like I've said before, if you have the ability to fill your lineup with scrubs, your team must not be good anyway.

There's enough teams with 5 great starters but bad depth. Those are playoff teams, but could instead end up with the #1 pick if they never start their good players. That kind of tanking is bad for a league, it's toxic and goes against the spirit of the game. You don't want 5 teams competing and 25 teams trying as hard as they can to be as bad as they can be just to be better next year.

My one point that I think a lot of owners get worked up over... If you don't own your own pick, tanking is not beneficial. In most drafts, 3 teams control 33-50% of the draft any way... So, the numbers...
