Here's an option that nobody has put out there... we don't change anything and proceed.
I've talked to multiple owners whose offseason efforts have been stalled by all of this. I like the idea of tweaking some things, but I'm strongly against changing the entire system. I'd caution the whole league on making drastic changes. We've come this far and we all love this league (otherwise, why would we be here?). I would hate to ruin a good thing. Besides, an overhaul of this nature would need lots of time and attention and I'm not sure we would come to a resolution that everyone agrees on by the start of the season.
Don't get me wrong... I really like the creativity and effort that many of you have shown in the spirit of improving our league. But some of these ideas sound like it's going to take A LOT of time on the part of the mods - and the trend seems to be that mods have less and less time to devote to this stuff.
My opinion is that we should vote on a few small tweaks within the next week and then move on.

Don't eradicate the one thing that made this league quite different from the thousands that do the FA system you've discussed (my own has openings for those looking). But get on with it! I've trades to make with MKG - who I don't feel like losing to a team that's not paying Larry Sanders cap fees. Do ya'll seriously mean to simply discuss and change the resign system, without even a vote? Set it up. Let's move on.

I do feel like it's time to separate these issues (as they've all ran together over 3 pages of discussion) into different threads and begin the voting process. I know we have had 4 or 5 different ideas for some of these issues that will need to go through multiple rounds of voting so the sooner we can get on with it the better.

Our commissioner is out of town for the next two days, so nothing is going to happen until he returns. I talked to him yesterday and his concern was similar to those already voiced, "I like the idea, but do we have time to implement it?" A valid concern to be sure.
Additionaly he suggested was that going forward we implement a 20 player limit on free agent bids happening at once. That is one page worth of players. That just keeps the free agency process at a manageable size for mods to keep track of. Small tweak, but a good one in my opinion. This would be especially important if we expand the FA process to include players that previously would have been re-sign players.
One positive about the potential change in terms of timing is that we no longer would need a re-sign period separate from free agency. Free agency could potentially happen as soon as the season ends with the draft running concurrently sometime in July/August. Previously the re-sign period had to come first and run it's full course before free agency could start, because without that any expiring contract still technically isn't on the market to bid until they have been re-signed or relinquished by their previous team.
Anyways...... The plan all along was to discuss publicly, then have mods vote on whatever changes were discussed. Mods will vote starting Monday on the following proposals:
1) Cap Raise to $65 mil 2) Qualifying Offers (as discussed) 3) Eliminate re-signs in favor of an open market system (rules generally as discussed, but still to be ironed out) 4) Adjustment of FA bidding points scale 5) If 3 doesn't pass, a vote on set of criteria that should be taken into consideration for re-sign voting.
Rule changes, if any, will be announced and in place by the end of next week.
In the meantime, the trade market is open, deals can be made, and debate on all this can continue as people feel is necessary.

See now one thing I've never understood about this league is why stuff like this is open to a mod only vote. I mean, are ya'll like our version of the electoral college? Super delegates? No, you put stuff like this up for a public vote, not just the defensive player of the year awards. Which I should have won had you given such a prize out to owners.
Can I get a like for this fella?

My opinion, short and sweet...
1.) 1 resign per 4(maybe 5) years 2.) Qualifying offers per Mighty's guidelines

Yawn. If only us lowly plebeians might be involved in all those divisive and impactful conversations being held behind closed doors instead of languishing in the dead space, bored, waiting on things to... you know... happen.
