The Washington Wizards have submitted a relocation request to the league office.
As per league rules, the Washington Wizards proposal must be put to a vote. It needs a 2/3 majority to pass. Voting deadline is set for two weeks from now - Friday 12/26. If 10 "no" votes are not received by the end of voting, the relocation is automatically approved.
Minnesota L*kers
The Plan:
Washington has a short history with no post-season success. Fans are unhappy with their team's spot they were left in by the previous GM. With a possible star player coming in to play alongside last year's number #2 overall selection, Evan Turner in this year’s draft, the organization wants a fresh start with their young talent. Creating a redo of the Oklahoma City Thunder's transition from Seattle, Washington wants to relocate, trade older talent such as Steve Nash, Troy Murphy, etc., and build a franchise that will win for a decades.
The City:
After considering many possible locations for our new fan base, we chose the passionate Minnesotan sports fan. With the relocation of the Minnesota Timberwolves to London, the great cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis are left without a professional basketball team to compliment the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins, both have long and successful histories. With the league's consent, we hope to continue the auspicious sports history of the great state of a thousand lakes with a new franchise. With the Target Center sitting empty next to Target Field (which garners sell outs every game), we feel we would have the same success with new ownership of the building. Upgrades, of course, will be made out of pocket from our new franchise to make this one of the best arena's for basketball in the league.
The Name:
Stripped from the state back in 1960, Minnesota lost a dynasty in the Minneapolis L*kers that was born by greats such as George Mikan and Elgin Baylor. We hope to restore this great tradition on bring back the legendary L*kers to Minnesota. Our team name will officially by the Minnesota L*kers once we move to Minnesota.
The League:
[Commissioner edit - please disregard information about league realignment that was contained here, we will be introducing a new realignment plan soon.]
We hope for suggestions for a jersey design site and hope the league will allow this shift for this franchise.
Thank you, The Washington Wizards (hopefully soon to be Minnesota Lakers)
