Since it is the offseason, it seems to be a good time for rule ideas/clarifications. Not sure what the procedure is for suggestions so excuse me if this is not the way.
1. Dead teams. Obviously hope all teams are live but if there is a dead team, I think there should be a rule on setting their line-up. Maybe use the ESPN player rater if there is a question of who should be played. Maybe one moderator in each conference is tasked with setting the roster for the dead teams each week.
2. Tanking. I know this was addressed at a time during the last season but I still think a harsher rule is needed. It didn't stop anything and while maybe it can't be stopped, when someone isn't playing their best player it is obvious they are tanking and more can be done. I don't see the point of vetos to keep competitive balance if people can ruin it with tanking. If the point of the draft is to give the teams that need the top pick the best chance at getting it, you need to make sure teams earning falling into the right spots and not tanking their way into better ones.
And yes, I realize the top pick was one that was traded for and kudos for making a smart move to acquire it. But the fact remains two openly tankers got picks two and three when if they played it straight up it could have been out of the top 5. Also, how would a team that just misses the playoffs feel if he played 0 tankers and someone who snuck in played 2? Just sucks all around to allow tankers.
Not trying to start the debate again, if our new commish says the tanking issue is done and dead, that's fine. Just thought it is an important enough of an issue to bring up in the offseason. But if tanking is basically allowed by sitting your good players and putting in scrubs, then lets get rid of vetoes and just let people run their teams however they want. I just don't get that if I want to sit Melo I can for a better draft position but if I want to trade him for a pack of gum there is all of a sudden a competitive balance issue going on. If we hold people to the standard of balanced trades, lets hold them to the standard they need to put forth their best line-up to win each week. Or lets do neither. Jumping over the line back and forth seems inconsistent.
