Yeah I think that's my main point. We can't hate the sport because of what it does to people when those people have chosen that life path. It would be like hating on a person serving our country because they went over seas and were in dangerous position and got hurt. They made that decision, they weren't forced to, was it the best decision? Maybe not, but they had their reasons for joining just as do football players.

I enjoy football because there is a unique art form to getting 11 different people, all with different skill sets and body types, to come together as one and be in sync. It's truly and amazing when you think of every little component that goes into every play whether it's blocking this gap or cutting this route exactly at this yard line to the QB throwing the ball to a spot on the field where the receiver is expected to be. All 11 people on the same page to make one thing work instantly and then back at it again with the next play, possibly being all different roles each player takes on from the previous. Not too many things like that

Saying that football is not a great sport because it causes harm to its players is basically saying the same thing about all the UFC hoopla there is now and things like boxing. So I hope you're not a fan of one of those first and foremost, because then you'd be a hypocrite. The people that take part in those sports, do so knowing the consequences. No one is being forced to play, none of the professional players are being forced to cash their checks. No college football player is being forced to take a free college education. Additionally, concussions are happening more and more in all sports because of the speed that games are played at. Does that mean all sports should stop? If not, then what is the limit. Cause it seems like we'd be playing the game of, once a sport sees ____ this many concussions, it is deemed dangerous and thus not a good sport. I played years of basketball and ran track in college and have thus destroyed my knees and ankles in the process. Not one regret though as it was and still is my passion. If we aren't playing sports, games, and doing the things we love to do, then why the hell are we living here? WE LOVE SPORTS THAT'S WHY! haha Lastly, to say that football is the sport for people who don't really like sports much is the funniest thing I've probably ever heard. It's only got the biggest following out of all the major sports in America...guess we're all just a bunch of dumb ass 'Mericans I don't think that was the point he was trying to make. I think what he was really saying is that there are a lot of people (A LOT) who consider themselves "football fans" because they like the experience of football games. The tailgating, drinking, party atmosphere, and not so much the game itself. These people couldn't care less about how a certain play develops, and to a certain extent, winning and losing is irrelevant (though they will say they care if their team wins). They just want to be entertained, and the atmosphere (along with the violence, which is the easiest thing to understand in our world) does just that.

Not too many things like that Taking nothing away from football, because it is somewhat of an art form for all those things to happen, I find it much less impressive than basketball or soccer. There is constant motion in both of those games, and there is so much more timing and anticipation involved in both. When you get to the point where you can see 2-3 plays before they happen, its a lot of fun. And this is why I believe basketball is the greatest sport out there. Not only does it require every player on the team to be on the same page on BOTH ENDS of the floor, but its really the only sport where players have to sublimate their basic instincts into the team goal. Its the only sport that allows for any of the 5 players on the floor to complete the task at hand (scoring), which is why chemistry is more important in the sport than any other out there. Yeah, offensive linemen don't get the glory that quarterbacks get, but they really don't have the platform to gain that kind of notoriety. Every player, in theory, has that platform in basketball, but the team can't win if every player is seeking that out. Roles are based more on a player's and coach's views of each guy, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a lot of guys that are capable of honestly assessing their game. I'm biased here, but there's a certain feeling one gets when they watch a basketball team play in perfect harmony on both ends. I know everyone here that's played, pickup or competitive, has gotten that feeling. I'm sure that happens in football, but it can't be the same because you only play one side of the field. (Steps down from soapbox)

Oh don't get me wrong. Like I mentioned previously, basketball is my passion. Love it more than anything ha ha. I just also have a respect for the game of football and its unique and different abilities that it has. Again, WE LOVE SPORTS!

Blagh shoot me now. Watching 90 minutes or more of dudes running around flopping as bad as the NBA's finest while putting up scores that can end in ties or like 1-0, no thanks. Haha

Well, hockey's like soccer on steroids. There are interesting things happening throughout the game and anyone could suddenly score at a moment's notice.

Yeah I respect them all just not for me. Hockey at least is so intimate with how small the 'court' is and how fast those dudes get around.

Totally agree with every point made here. NFL is my favorite football used to be into college football but cant anymore. too lopsided and too corrupt (pete carroll, reggie bush, cam newton, chip kelly, to name a few that either won a bs championship game or played in it recently. and all people who got to skip to the pros and get rich from cheating in college). top of college football is as clean as the top of the tour de france standings. everyone is doing something shady. whats the point? if a fan of a small school, never have a chance to win it all, the big boys wouldnt let you. all the big boys are just trying to out cheat each other. no loyalty either, all the conference realignment showed that, all about the buck and since football is king, all the other sports get dragged along without a voice. how many fun college basketball rivalries have died because football moved a team away to another conference? college football became too big and got too much power and decided to flip the finger to all the other sports while showing how great and powerful they are. big 12 might be a great place for west virginia football to be but a giant pain in the ass for the rest of the programs.

I keep logging on, hoping to find that the draft has made progress.... Only to disappointedly find the updates of a "what's the second best sport behind basketball" argument. Here are my feelings:
1. I'm so excited to make my pick, that finding this stuff instead is like getting socks on Christmas morning. 2. I still like socks. And I still really enjoy this league. (Despite these terribly slow drafters!)

College football needs an system overhaul, no doubt. But as a game it is as entertaining and passionate as anything. All the stuff you dislike is going on off the field and doesn’t really effect what happens between the lines on a Saturday. It IS a top heavy system, the conference realignment IS frustrating, the money involved IS criminal, and the amount of “shadiness” IS probably staggering. I won’t argue there. You can also add the ridiculous BCS system, the lack of playoff, and the inconsistency between conferences in regards to non-conference scheduling, the number of conference games, and the championship/no championship issue. If they would just ask me to fix it, I would. I’ve got it all figured out. Unfortunately the NCAA is a disgustingly corrupt and hypocritical organization. But regardless, that is all weekday talk show fodder. None of it effects what happens on Saturday. And what happens on Saturday is what makes me love college football.
