I'll be short on this now; I know everyone wants to make their team the best and there are several ways to achieve this, but there are limitations to what you can do. Tanking (not setting lineups) is said to be off limits by a vast majority of fantasy owners. I have also received PM's about owners here that are glad that people like Bulls and me are speaking up, because it bothers them too. And yes, they should say so themselves but not everyone wants to discuss on the internet.
Also, in my eyes there is a huge difference between trading for the future to make your team worse now so it can be better later, and not setting lineups to make your team perform worse than it actually is. That is not fair to other rebuilding teams that DO set their lineups like they should. I have been around for some years now too, and I've been in numberous great and active leagues but not one of them approved of tanking, and almost all of them punish it severely.

I do agree that tanking is not a good thing. I'm not sure I agree with ultimately how bad it is. While it hurts the league, especially if it is practiced by many teams, I'm not sure I am comfortable with harsh punishments for losing on purpose. In the past my opinion has always been "if they want to tank, so be it, more wins for me." The draft is a crap shoot anyway, rookies take a long time to become fantasy contributors even when you draft the good ones, and the lottery has a tendency to balance things out pretty well. Also, tanking only has an effect on ONE pick. Denver (the example everyone loves) owns FIVE first round picks, only one of which is being helped by tanking. If you want to look at the big picture, other four picks are actually getting worse as a result of his tanking.
So that is where I come from. Tanking causes a whole lot of angst and debate, but really doesn't do much to affect a team in the long run.
HOWEVER, Amsterdam and Chicago have both made good arguments against it, and I see where they are coming from. It really does have a strong negative effect on other team's ability to play fantasy basketball (why we are all here), and still build a strong roster for future seasons.
It was my intention when I created this league to let it be run as a democracy. I'm happy as commissioner, but uncomfortable as dictator. This offseason was all screwed up with the lockout (I still need to pinch myself, can't believe we are actually having a season!), but we were supposed to have a chance to vote on a new commissioner and new mods. And, as everyone knows, commissioners and mods make the rules. Next season I'll make sure that happens pre-draft and if people want to talk about punishments for tanking, that would be a very appropriate time to do it.
The best idea I can come up with is: If you have 5 healthy players and they are not in the lineup each day during a match it counts as a "thrown game". Every thrown game during the season knocks you down one spot in the lottery pecking order. Throw 5 games? Get bumped backed 5 spots. This doesn't prevent someone from sitting Durant and starting Belinelli, but it ensures that there is at least minimal competition each week. If you and another team want the worst record, you better put the "best/most" bad team on the floor each week.
Something to think about at least, but as I said, no rule changes are coming immediately. That is not to say changes can't come after the season and before next year's draft.....

Quite a debate you guys have going on and someone new to the league I won't comment on it since I don't have the history.
However, I do have questions about the league. I made a free agent posting and don't understand what needs to be done now. No one bid on the player for over the 24 hours; however, the player still doesn't show up in the approved signings. This debate about tanking and I'm trying to add a player to fill a void in my starting line-up and I can't pick the player up. Not my fault I don't have a complete starting line-up out there. No one will approve my acquistion of a PF to complete my roster.
Can someone please help me understand how to get free agents?
Thanks.

Just saw that my trade was denied and I understand the comments even though I don't think lube was needed. I could justify the trade to anyone and everyone. But that's not the point.
Everyone is debating the tanking of teams for better draft positions or the other reasons listed here but an owner makes a trade for what will, in the short term for sure, improve his rosters competitive balance dramatically. The long term can be debated and no one can no for sure until the players develop. And let me tell you this. As a former New York resident, I can tell you if Kobe came to NY today the fans of the Knicks wouldn't care what they gave up. They would have Kobe in a heartbeat and the GM would be praised for years to come for the move. But that's neither here nor there.
But now it makes one wonder if the owners that admit to tanking are doing it for a reason other than what they write here. Maybe I shouldn't care about picking up a PF and tank so that I can get into the lottery with the 2012 pick. With Kobe the pick Sacramento got would have been a lower draft pick no matter what else my roster did this year; however, now I have an incentive to play for a bad record.
I, for one, would never do that. It's not me or my belief of why I play so many fantasy sports leagues. I play for the fun but I put the league before my team and tanking is not good for the league, in my opinion. So I will try to put out a roster, if I can get my PF FA signing approved , that will be full and complete each and every day.
I know I said it in my first post that since I was new to the league the current debate didn't need my comment. However, after seeing the trade denial and having trouble getting a free agent signing it changed my opinion to say something.
With that said Irving is up for trade again so those many owners that contacted me about Irving get back to me again. If things develop, I would even welcome a three, four way deal so that we can make some things happen.
Let's all have fun and enjoy ourselves. This is a hobby for most of us and let's enjoy it.
Thanks for reading this rant.

You don't have to do anything, it's up to the mods to approve your signing if you did it correctly. I just did, so you can add him to your roster page and add him on ESPN if you have an active roster spot for him.

I noticed you activated Brandon Roy. LOL. Just a stop-gap at the moment. He'll be back on IR next week. Speaking of which, in the rules it says that guys have to be on IR for at least a week. Obviously, that makes sense. My question is, where do we post that we are shuffling our IR spots? Is that just kind of left up to us?

I've simply been posting my IR moves on my transactions page under my team, helps keep track of it I think

Transaction page is the best spot for that. I think the easiest way to keep up with it is to monitor your opponent. Look at their roster each week, if they pull some off the IR mid-week tell a mod and we'll check on when that guy went on the IR originally. Thats what I do at least...

dallas and NY are free to take, but houston I'm not so sure ... he is active (last activity was yesterday), he only hasn't set his lineup. Don't ask me why If dallas is still available, i would take them Redick_is_money@yahoo.com

Dallas is yours dhamon! Continue with your registration, Get to know the rules and Repost the roster and make a new team Transaction page and I will delete the old owner's stuff and get Mighty to get you set up on ESPN.
You have any player Amnesty waivers you wish to use on this team so post any of those in the Amnesty section under Waivers.
