I am submitting this on behalf of the ownership of the New Jersey Nets.
The Plan:
The organization feels it can not continue to succeed in the current state it is in. The IZOD center is not a satisfactory facility to our standards anymore, but we can not get the proper approval to renovate it or build a new stadium. The fan support has dwindled so much we have started giving away free tickets for nationally televised games just so there is a crowd. It is hard for our players to have something to play for when their own city doesn't support them. The team is at risk of running its self into the ground and we feel we need to be proactive in fixing this problem before it is too late. For the last couple seasons we have attempted to gain more community support with various fund raisers and team ran functions, but nothing seems to regain the city's interest. We feel we have done all we can to keep the team in the city of New Jersey and now feel it is time to move on. We feel with the league reorganization and draft this is a perfect opportunity for a new beginning. That is why we are sending you this proposal to relocate the New Jersey Nets.
The City:
We looked very hard at where to move the franchise. We took in account the cities themselves and the league organization and have felt we found a great solution. We have chosen Las Vegas, Nevada as our desired destination. The city is a vibrant and lively city that would thrive with an NBA franchise. There is a current community that has already shown a passion for sports programs, but also the games could become a tourist attraction for the people visiting the city.
The Name:
We also will be changing the name of the team, which was another decision not taken lightly. The team will now be known as the Las Vegas Love. The name has many connections to the city. The initials LV, the Hearts suit in a deck of cards, all of the wedding chapels in the city, hookers, The love is everywhere!
The League:
Now we are aware and took in account this will dramatically affect the current league organization. We have set forth a plan of how this will work out. First we will be moved to the Mountain Division. This will bump over Oklahoma City to the Southwest Division where we think better suits them geographically anyway. Then the Memphis Grizzlies will move to the Southeast Division, again where we think they are better suited. Lastly, the Washington Wizards will shift to the Atlantic Division. We feel this not only works, but helps the current league organization.
We already have logos and jerseys designed for this move that we think will be exciting and invigorating for the teams transition.
Thank You for reading our proposal, we hope we have presented an argument enough to gain your vote in support of our plan.
